The job

PURPOSE

The Maintenance Manager owns all mechanical and electrical maintenance for the Luanda plant (melt shop, rolling mill and utilities), keeping equipment uptime high while controlling maintenance cost and enforcing safety standards across a 24/7 heavy-industry operation.

REPORTING LINE

Reports to the Plant/Operations Manager, Angola. Manages a team of mechanical and electrical maintenance engineers, technicians and shift supervisors, and coordinates directly with Production, Engineering and HSE leads.

What you will do

  • Owns the preventive/predictive maintenance plan for all production and utility equipment; tracks compliance against plan and closes the gap between planned and completed work.
  • Leads breakdown response, root-cause analysis and corrective-action follow-through to cut unplanned downtime and repeat failures.
  • Manages the maintenance team's shift coverage, training, competency development and performance.
  • Controls the maintenance budget, spares inventory and criticality assessments for key assets, and manages maintenance contractors and vendors.
  • Plans and leads maintenance shutdowns in coordination with Production and Engineering, minimising production loss.
  • Enforces lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work and other HSE requirements across all maintenance activity, and investigates maintenance-related incidents.
  • Drives continuous improvement in maintenance strategy (RCM/TPM practices) and CMMS data quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years' maintenance experience in steel or heavy industry, including at least 3 years in a maintenance leadership role.
  • Strong grounding in both mechanical (rolling mill, cranes, hydraulics) and electrical (MV/LV, drives, PLCs) plant maintenance.
  • Proven CMMS/maintenance-planning discipline and spares-management experience.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Within the first 6 months, planned maintenance compliance is above 90%, unplanned downtime trends down quarter over quarter, the maintenance budget is under control with an accurate spares criticality register in place, and the maintenance team operates safely with zero lost-time incidents.
