About the role
MMD Steel Group is looking for a Head of Operations for its Ghana operation in Tema. You run the plant: scrap processing and logistics, production, maintenance, projects, HSE and stores all report into this role, and the operating result is yours.
What you will do
- Lead plant operations across production, maintenance, projects, scrap and logistics, stores and HSE.
- Own the operating plan and budget for those departments, and hold each head to their goals and spend.
- Protect the financial health of the operation: cost per tonne, yield, consumption, working capital and capital spend.
- Drive capacity, reliability and improvement projects from case through commissioning.
- Set the safety standard for the site and insist on it, from contractor management to shopfloor practice.
- Maintain internal control and corporate governance across the operation, and close audit findings.
- Build the management team below you and develop their successors.
What you bring
- Degree in engineering; a management qualification such as an MBA is valued.
- Fifteen or more years in heavy manufacturing, with senior plant leadership; steel is a strong advantage.
- A record of running a plant to plan on safety, output and cost, not one of them at the expense of the others.
- English; French is useful across the region.
Where you will work
Tema, Ghana, on site, reporting to the general manager and the regional leadership.
